Dyer County upsets District 14-3A champion to survive in region tournament

JP Productions Sports With the season on the line and a spot in the region semifinals up for grabs, the Lady Choctaws’ turned to their three seniors who combined to score 51 points during Dyer County’s 68-56 win over Haywood in Brownsville on Friday night. Dyer County entered the game as the No. 4 seed coming out of District 13-3A while the Lady Tomcats were the District 14-3-A Champions. In a pretty high-scoring opening quarter, Dyer County was able to stay ahead of Haywood’s scoring pace thanks their senior trio. Tykeria Kennedy scored eight while Alijah Robinson tossed in four to go along with a four-point frame by Anitra Honore to take a 24-20 lead after one quarter. Dyer County’s defense held the Lady Tomcats to a trio of three-pointers in the second quarter.
