A struggle-filled start by the Lady Choctaws on Tuesday night in Alamo hampered the Dyer County girls hopes as the Lady Cavaliers jumped out to a 17-point advantage early on the way to a 70-41 win over Dyer County.
The Lady Cavaliers put plenty of distance between themselves and the visiting Lady Choctaws in the opening quarter, opening the game with a 17-0 run before a three-pointer from Zya Currie finally got the Dyer County girls on the board with 2:10 left in the first frame. The Lady Choctaws were able to get a bucket from Alijah Robinson as well as free throws by Marley Morgan and Tykeria Kennedy before the Cavaliers took a 23-9 lead after one quarter.Though early buckets from Kennedy and a three-point play by Robinson cut the Lady Cavalier lead to 11 early in the second quarter, Crockett County ended the first half on a 16-8 run to take a commanding 41-22 lead at the break.
The Lady Choctaws looked to climb back into the game after a bucket from Currie and back-to-back putbacks from Anitra Honore were followed by a Kennedy three-pointer to cut Crockett County's lead to 43-31 with six minutes left in the quarter. But, Crokett County answered back, holding the Lady Choctaws to a lone point for much of the remainder of the third quarter before an Alijah Robinson bucket cut the Lady Cavalier lead to 52-34 heading into the final frame.
From there, the Lady Cavaliers held off Dyer County to secure the district win.
Kennedy led the way for Dyer County with 10 points while Robinson and Honore each added eight in the loss
Dyer County returns to action on Friday when the Lady Choctaws host Peabody for Homecoming 2025 beginning at 6 p.m. in Newbern.
