  Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports The final postseason spot coming out of Region 7-3A was on the line Friday night in Troy as the Rebels looked to punch their ticket to the TSSAA Class 3A Playoffs against Bolivar Central. Trailing after a late first-half touchdown by the Tigers, Obion County Central answered and had chances to pull ahead through the second half but were unable to get on the board and fell 7-6 to Bolivar. “We had some opportunities,” Obion County Central Head Coach Clayton Morris said. “Even in the first half, we had opportunities. “It was another night when out defense played extremely well. We’re out-athleted in a lot of spots and, with the exception of a bad snap on a punt, I don’t know if either offense has much success.” The play Morris referenced came with about 3:30 left in the first half as a high snap over the Rebel punter’s head was recovered by Central at the Obion County 14-yard line.   Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports Coming into Thursday night’s regular-season finale with Lexington, Dyer County’s football team could finish as high as second place with a win but also find themselves out of the playoffs if they lost. Despite struggles at times on offense, the former became the result for the Choctaws as the orange and white secured the No. 2 seed in the TSSAA Class 4A Playoffs with a 17-9 win over the Tigers in Newbern. “Our guys fight,” Dyer County Head Coach Justin Dubruiel said. “Our assistant coaches help us get in good spots. Our guys played hard.” After recovering an onside kick to open the game, Lexington put together a very long drive to open the contest.   Spencer Noel Staff Reporter, JP Productions Sports After falling last week to Westview, the Dyersburg Trojans looked to bounce back against the Ripley Tigers. In a game that never saw Dyersburg trail, the Trojans were able to handle business in the regular season finale 56-7 at J.C. Sawyers Stadium. Dyersburg won the toss and differed, but recovered a pooch kick at the Ripley 45-yard line. After a 20-yard run by Quincey Terry Jr., a handoff to Peyton Hill went 25 yards for the Trojans score. The extra point by Elian Gonzalez was good, which made the score 7-0 in favor of Dyersburg. The Tigers got the ball at their own 16-yard line to start their first drive, but the Trojans defense forced a three-and-out and got the ball at the Ripley 30-yard line. On the first play, a handoff to Hill went all the way for the Trojans touchdown. The extra point was good, extending the Dyersburg lead to 14-0.   Joey Football and the Tennessee Three In what became a surprising shootout with a great deal of scoring and very little defense, Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar and his three prime time receivers, Chris Brazzell, Mike Matthews and Braylon Staley, led the Big Orange to an important road win over Kentucky in Lexington. Aguilar was a laser in this game, connecting on 20 of 26 passes for 396 yards and three touchdowns. The trio of wideouts all topped the 100-yard plateau on the stat sheets for the Volunteers. The two teams combined for 90 total points as both defenses struggled for the entire game. Kentucky had not scored two first half touchdowns since 2023 but in the end and for the game, the Wildcats crossed the goal line five times against the feeble and struggling UT defense. Poor preparation and confusion once again reigned for the Tennessee defense. In the process, Dyer County looks to wrap up the second seed in Region 7-3A with a victory over the Tigers on Thursday night in Newbern. Dyer County Head Coach Justin Dubruiel shared what he wanted his team to accomplish this week as the Choctaws head into the postseason. “We need to limit penalties and mistakes,” Dubruiel said. “We need to be physical on both sides of the ball and not let the moment be bigger than what it is.” Dubruiel shared where the Tigers give him concern on offense. “Offensively they do so much,” the Choctaw head coach said. “They get in the straight T, Maryland I, and then spread. “They change personnel with it too. Sawyers Stadium as the Trojans host Ripley. The Trojans will be looking to regain some momentum heading into the postseason after a trio of losses against ranked competition. “We need to play well and keep getting better,” Dyersburg Head Coach Bart Stowe said. “We need to take momentum into the playoffs and we need to win this ballgame right here tomorrow night. “Yes, we are already in the playoffs. Falcons Head Coach Hunter Short shared what he wants his team to accomplish in the final regular-season game of 2025.   “I want to see us go out and fight like there’s nothing to lose,” Short said. “We have done a good job all year competing so I just wanna see our guys go out and see what happens and leave it all out on the field.” Offensively, the Lions have some size up front and do have a good running game. “Dresden is big up front and they have Luke DiPietro who is one of the top rushers in our classification across the state,” Short explained.
