Lake County gets first win, dominates Gleason in region opener

Image
Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports Heading into a Week 5 battle to open Region 7-1a play, the Lake County Falcons flew to their first victory of the season with a 41-0 win over the Bulldogs in Gleason on Friday night. The win is also the Falcons’ first of the six region games on their schedule, which are important to playoff seeding and momentum. Lake County Head Coach Hunter Short credited the team’s linemen for being a big part of the win on Friday night in Gleason. “It’s like I’ve been telling you for three or four weeks, man, our offensive line had to get going,” Short explained. “We did some things different in the run game tonight to help them and I think it really did help obviously.” During the mercy rule win, Lake County carried the ball 34 times for 324 yards and four touchdowns. In a rare even-split, two players led the team with Cade Lanier and Randy Demo both carrying the ball 14 times for 113 yards apiece. Demo scored three times on the groun...

Northview holds off Three Oaks in annual Battle of the Choctaws

Image
Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports Just one night after the two schools in the Dyer County system met on the volleyball court, Northview hosted Three Oaks in football action on Thursday night as the orange and white from Newbern defeated the Choctaws from Upper Finley Road 22-14 to celebrate Homecoming 2026. Northview got on the board in the first quarter on an AJ Young touchdown run. The two-point conversion put the Choctaws from Newbern on top 8-0 during the opening frame. Three Oaks looked poised to score as the orange and white drove down the field deep into Northview territory. The NMS defense stepped up and stopped TOMS in the red zone to end the Three Oaks scoring threat. But, on the first play of the ensuing Northview drive, a bad snap over the NMS quarterback’s head resulted in a safety and two points for Three Oaks with 2:04 left in the first half. Northview was able to keep Three Oaks from adding to their side of the board after the free kick to...

Big Orange Report September 17, 2026

Image
299 On Tennessee's first snap from scrimmage, DeSean Bishop burst through the line of scrimmage and played bumper cars with the Georgia Tech defense for a 33-yard gain. That play set the tone for the Big Orange offense for a dominating performance by the infantry. UT finished with 299 yards on the ground led by Bishop. The senior rambled for 150 yards on 20 carries. Sophomore Daune Morris was also impressive, running for 96 yards on just 10 carries in the game. Perhaps one of the most impressive spectacles in the victory was the performance of defensive coordinator Jim Knowles pass rush. Knowles was sending safeties, corners and linebackers on blitzes and the Yellowjackets blockers seemed confused and bewildered for much of the game. For a brief time, Knowles took his foot off the gas in the third quarter but fired things back up when Tech scored twice. Frankly, it was a defensive scheme not seen from a Vol defense in many moons or perhaps, never. Arion Carter returned to tie for...

Three Oaks rallies to complete sweep, avenges loss to Northview

Image
Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports In the second Wednesday evening meeting between the schools in the Dyer County system, Three Oaks gave Northview some payback as the Lady Choctaws from Upper Finley Road avenged their loss at home to the orange and white from Newbern with a two-set win on Wednesday night at Northview. The sweep was not without drama though as Three Oaks trailed late in the second set. Northview looked ready to force a deciding third set as they Lady Choctaws from Newbern took a 23-17 lead before Three Oaks got possession back. With Kincy Dyer on the line, Three Oaks battled back, scoring three straight including an ace before Northview reached set point at 24-21. But, Northview wasn’t able to hang onto possession as Three Oaks scored three straight again, this time with Larsen Parker on the line, and got to match point at 25-24. Northview was able to fight off Three Oaks and tie the game but the visitors from across the county scored two straig...

Lady Trojans continue winning ways, sweep Union City

Image
Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports The Dyersburg volleyball team picked up its third win in a row on Tuesday evening, sweeping visiting Union City in three sets to pick up its first win of the week. The Lady Trojans battled through a tough start to the match before pulling away to take the first set 25-14 after a strong finish to the frame. Union City kept it interesting late before Dyersburg picked up the 25-18 win in the second set. The third set was all Dyersburg as the Lady Trojans dominated the frame for a 25-7 win. DMS outlasts Millington, wins Battle of Trojans in overtime

Image
Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports After 32 minutes of back-and-forth scoring which could give defensive coordinators nightmares, the Dyersburg Middle School football team brought an exciting night on the gridiron to a close with a 10-yard touchdown by Devanti White, Jr. on the first play of the Trojans’ first possession in overtime gave the DMS black and gold a 36-30 win over Millington at J.C. Sawyers Stadium on Tuesday night. This was not the first time White gave DMS the lead as he broke free late in the third quarter with a 41-yard touchdown run to put Dyersburg back on top with 1:13 left in the frame. LaDarius Howard tacked on the two-point conversion to give the DMS Trojans a 30-24 lead. As they had been doing throughout the game, the Millington Trojans answered on their very next possession. But, Dyersburg nearly prevented the Millington rally as the hosting Trojans forced a fourth-and-goal from the DMS 3 before a touchdown by the MCMS Trojans tied the...
