Three Oaks rallies to complete sweep, avenges loss to Northview

In the second Wednesday evening meeting between the schools
in the Dyer County system, Three Oaks gave Northview some payback as the Lady Choctaws
from Upper Finley Road avenged their loss at home to the orange and white from
Newbern with a two-set win on Wednesday night at Northview.
The sweep was not without drama though as Three Oaks trailed late in the second set. Northview looked ready to force a deciding third set as they Lady Choctaws from Newbern took a 23-17 lead before Three Oaks got possession back. With Kincy Dyer on the line, Three Oaks battled back, scoring three straight including an ace before Northview reached set point at 24-21. But, Northview wasn’t able to hang onto possession as Three Oaks scored three straight again, this time with Larsen Parker on the line, and got to match point at 25-24. Northview was able to fight off Three Oaks and tie the game but the visitors from across the county scored two straight with Cadee Clark on the line to take the set 27-25 and the match, 2-0.
Earlier in the set, Northview built its lead with serves
from Lyla Beth Woody to take a 14-11 lead midway through the frame. The 5-0
scoring spree also included a Woody ace which gave the Lady Choctaws the lead they
held until the Three Oaks rally.
Three Oaks seemed determined to avenge their loss on Sept. 2
on their home court as they opened the match with back-to-back points then built
an 8-2 lead with Ella Childress on the line later in the set. Northview battled
back and was able to cut the score to 12-7 later in the frame and 15-10 moments
later. But, the Lady Choctaws from Upper Finley Road went on a 10-5 tear to end
the frame with a 25-15 win in the first set.
Over the course of the two sets, Three Oaks earned six aces with Parker and Grayce Vestal each recording two while only recording two service errors. On the Northview side of things, the Lady Choctaws from Newbern recorded eight aces with Neeli Todd, Langley West, and Nora Williamson each getting two. Northview, did struggle at the with 12 service errors.
Three Oaks returns to action on Thursday when the Lady Choctaws
host Halls at 6 p.m. Meanwhile, Northview is back in action on Monday, Sept. 21
when the Lady Choctaws travel to Paris to take on Inman at 6 p.m.
