Choctaws fall to South Gibson in 13-3A Quarterfinals
Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports A three-run fifth inning proved costly for the Choctaws as South Gibson defeated Dyer County 5-2 in the quarterfinals of the winner’s bracket of the District 13-3A Tournament at Crockett County High School. After a pair of scoreless innings, Dyer County looked to get on the board as Nate Vick singled with one out then Landon Todd added a two-out single. But, after an error put the two freshmen at second and third, Talon Messer was intentionally walked which lead to a force out at second to end the Choctaw threat. The Hornets capitalized in the bottom of the frame with a two-run double by J BATEMAN to take a 2-0 lead after three innings. South Gibson then tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fifth to create plenty of insurance for the Hornets with a 5-0 lead after five. Dyer County did not go down without a fight.
