The Dyersburg softball team completed a week which included
three straight District 13-3A games, sweeping the trio of contests after a 3-1
win over Obion County Central on Wednesday evening at Doug French Field.
The Lady Rebels were able to get on the board in the top of
the first inning without evening getting the ball out of the infield. A dropped
third strike and two Central base hits lead to an error as the first four batters
reached base and put a run on the board for the visitor. Dyersburg settled down
after that, as pitcher Izzie Odom struck out the next batter then got help from
her defense to leave the top of the first trailing 1-0.
Though the Lady Trojans were not able to get on the board early, the defense retired six of the next eight batters to get to the bottom of the third trailing by a run. In the Dyersburg half of the third, Avery Hicks got on with a single to center then senior Lilly Kate Jones homered to center to give Dyersburg a 2-1 lead after three frames.
Dyersburg’s defense continued to hold the lead while the
Lady Trojans got another run in the bottom of the fourth. Chelby Jordan reached
on an error then stole second as the throw resulted in an error that moved the
senior to third. Later in the frame, Jordan reached on a wild pitch to put the black
and gold on top 3-1 after four frames.
Those three runs proved to be all the Dyersburg defense and
Izzie Odom needed as the Lady Trojans allowed only a pair of doubles over the
next three innings to seal the win.
Odom got the win in the circle, allowing one run on five
hits with eight strikeouts.
Mallory McCaslin led the Lady Trojans at the plate with a
pair of singles to go along with Jones’ homer and a Murphy Morgan double.
Dyersburg returns to action in the regular season finale on
Monday when the Lady Trojans host Haywood at 6:30 p.m. in District 13-3A
action.
