Dyersburg boys split at Peggy Bain Classic

  Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports The Dyersburg boys picked up a split in their two games at the Peggy Bain Classic at Alcorn Central in Mississippi on Monday and Tuesday. Dyersburg opened its stay in the two-day classic with a 58-55 loss to Pontotoo on Monday afternoon at Alcorn Central High School. The Trojans trailed by two heading into the final frame and looked to grab the lead thanks to a balanced scoring attack led by five points by Jace Ward. But, Pontotoo was able to stay just ahead of the pace and secure the win on the opening day of the tournament. Ward led the Trojans with 20 points while Cameron Rhines added ten in the loss. On Tuesday, Dyersburg bounced back to take a 58-47 win over Hernando to close out the Trojans’ stay in the tournament. Ward and Jayce Ellerbrook got the Trojans off to a strong start with six points each as Dyersburg took a 16-7 lead after one quarter. Bradford tops Northview in third-place game

  Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports Bradford Jr. High’s girls wrapped up their season by bouncing back from a tough loss to Trinity Christian School with a 49-15 win over Northview in the third place game of the Lady Trojan Christmas Tournament on Tuesday afternoon in Dyersburg. Northview got four of its eight first-quarter points from Jaliyah Watson. Bradford’s offense was clicking, scoring 19 points to take a 19-8 lead after one quarter. The Lady Choctaws began to struggle on offense in the second quarter. Northview was held to a three-pointer from Landri Stewart and a pair of free throws by Cailee Adams and trailed 27-13 at the break. During the second half, the Lady Red Devils put the game away, outscoring Northview 22-2 over the final dozen minutes to clinch third place in the tournament. TCA rallies to be Dyersburg Middle in Christmas Tournament final

  Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports Though the Lady Trojans led by five heading into the half, Dyersburg Middle’s girls were held to just ten points in the second half as Trinity Christian Academy came from behind to beat the black and gold 35-29 in the Lady Trojan Christmas Tournament Middle School Championship Game on Tuesday afternoon at Dyersburg. Desleign Strayhorn was the spark for the Lady Trojans in the first quarter, scoring 11 of the team’s 13 points in the opening six minutes. Dyersburg took a 13-6 lead after one. The Lady Trojans were held to just six points in the second quarter with four coming from Strayhorn. In the meantime, Trinity Christian was able to cut slightly into the Dyersburg lead during the low-scoring second quarter and trailed 19-14 at the half. Lady Trojans cruise in second half to tournament title

  Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports The Dyersburg girls wrapped up the Lady Trojan Christmas Tournament as well as the 2025 portion of their schedule, taking the tournament title with a 69-43 win over Jackson Christian School in the tournament championship game on Tuesday night in the Terry Glover Gymnasium. Dyersburg dominated the opening quarter for much of the team, leading by over 15 points thanks to eight points from Chelby Jordan and six points each by Aerie Quinn and KayKay Strayhorn. The Lady Eagles were able to cut it to 24-10 by the end of the frame. Jackson Christian cut further into the Lady Trojan lead early in the second quarter, getting as close as two possessions. But, Dyersburg got a couple big three-pointers from Quinn to get back ahead of the pace and take a 41-23 lead into the break. Dyersburg Middle girls cruise past Northview into finals

  Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports Playing for the third time in a little over a month, Dyersburg Middle’s girls easily handled the challenge from Northview as the Lady Trojans cruised into the 2025 Lady Trojan Christmas Tournament Championship Game with a 52-14 win over the Lady Choctaws at Dyersburg High School. Dyersburg scored early and often as Micah McLin led the way for the Lady Trojans with a pair of three-pointers to help the Lady Trojans take a 14-3 lead after one quarter. Northview was able to get its offense going more with a five-point frame by Montgomery. The Lady Trojans were able to stay well-ahead of Northview as TJ Jones led the way with six points. Dyersburg went into the break with a 28-12 advantage. Dyersburg pulled away in the third frame as Khalia Reynolds scored five and Desleign Strayhorn added four to help the Lady Trojans take a 43-12 lead into the final frame. Lady Falcons rally to take overtime win over Bradford

  Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports The Lake County girls looked to bounce back from their opening round loss in the 2025 Lady Trojan Christmas Tournament at Dyersburg. While the Lady Falcons were able to pick up the win, the green and gold needed a rally and an overtime frame to get the 52-49 win over Bradford on Monday afternoon in the Terry Glover Gymnasium. Lake County trailed by ten heading into the second half after a low-scoring first two quarters. The Lady Falcons were able to make up for this in the third frame as two players – JaMiracle Kinney and Yharia Bolden – equaled the team’s output from the first two frames with six points each in the frame. Laken Chism added five of her own to the effort as a late Kinney bucket gave Lake County a 33-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Dyer County teams fall in Point Guard Tournament openers

  Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports Dyer County hit the road to get their post-Christmas schedule underway but had a tough going of it on Saturday in Huntingdon. The girls and boys each fell in the respective tournament openers in the first day of the Huntingdon Point Guard Coca-Cola Christmas Tournament. University School of Jackson boys 48, Dyer County 41 A low-scoring second quarter by the Choctaws proved to be the tipping point as Dyer County never recovered before falling to the Bruins. Dyer County got five points from Clay Dodds and four more by Triston Seabourn in the opening frame to trail 17-14 after one quarter. While the second quarter was low-scoring by both teams, the Choctaws’ dismal final eight minutes in the first half saw only a pair of Dodds free throws which led to a 25-16 lead by the Bruins at the half. Lake County takes second half, defeats Gibson County

  Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports The Lake County boys picked up a win in their first post-Christmas game, taking an 84-75 win over Gibson County on the first day of the Huntingdon Point Guard Coca-Cola Christmas Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Huntingdon High School. With the score tied at 38-38 after two quarters, the Falcons got four three-pointers from Aikee Ward as part of a 21-point frame by the Lake County boys. While Gibson County was able to put some points on the board in the third frame, the green and gold defense held the Pioneers to 18to take a 59-56 lead into the final frame. Thanks to a 10-point frame by Jay Ricks as part of a balanced scoring effort by the Falcons, Lake County was able to push its lead into double-digits at times on the way to the nine-point win.
