Dyersburg boys split at Peggy Bain Classic
Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports The Dyersburg boys picked up a split in their two games at the Peggy Bain Classic at Alcorn Central in Mississippi on Monday and Tuesday. Dyersburg opened its stay in the two-day classic with a 58-55 loss to Pontotoo on Monday afternoon at Alcorn Central High School. The Trojans trailed by two heading into the final frame and looked to grab the lead thanks to a balanced scoring attack led by five points by Jace Ward. But, Pontotoo was able to stay just ahead of the pace and secure the win on the opening day of the tournament. Ward led the Trojans with 20 points while Cameron Rhines added ten in the loss. On Tuesday, Dyersburg bounced back to take a 58-47 win over Hernando to close out the Trojans’ stay in the tournament. Ward and Jayce Ellerbrook got the Trojans off to a strong start with six points each as Dyersburg took a 16-7 lead after one quarter.
