Dyersburg opened its stay in the two-day classic with a 58-55 loss to Pontotoo on Monday afternoon at Alcorn Central High School.

Ward led the Trojans with 20 points while Cameron Rhines added ten in the loss.

On Tuesday, Dyersburg bounced back to take a 58-47 win over Hernando to close out the Trojans’ stay in the tournament.

Ward and Jayce Ellerbrook got the Trojans off to a strong start with six points each as Dyersburg took a 16-7 lead after one quarter.

After holding Hernando to just seven points in the second quarter as well, the Trojans were able to get a balanced scoring effort led by four points from Isaiah Thomas. Dyersburg took a 27-14 lead into the break.

Though the Trojans’ scoring struggled in the third quarter and Hernando nearly doubled its output from the entire game thusfar in the first eight minutes of the second half, Dyersburg’s defense kept the black and gold lead in place. Dyersburg took a 33-27 lead into the final frame.

The Trojan offense woke back up in the final eight minutes. Ward scored 15 to lead the way for the black and gold while Rhines added seven to help Dyersburg clinch the win.

Ward led the way for Dyersburg with 25 while Rhines added a dozen in the win.

The Trojans return to action on Saturday to open the second half of their schedule against Ripley at home. Girls’ tipoff is at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.
