Point Guard Coca-Cola Christmas Tournament.
University School of Jackson boys 48, Dyer County 41
A low-scoring second quarter by the Choctaws proved to be the tipping point as Dyer County never recovered before falling to the Bruins.
Dyer County got five points from Clay Dodds and four more by
Triston Seabourn in the opening frame to trail 17-14 after one quarter.
While the second quarter was low-scoring by both teams, the
Choctaws’ dismal final eight minutes in the first half saw only a pair of Dodds
free throws which led to a 25-16 lead by the Bruins at the half.
Seabourn and Dodds got the scoring going in the third
quarter with four points each in the third frame. USJ was able to keep with the
Dyer County scoring pace to lead 36-28 heading into the final frame.
From there, the Bruins held off Dyer County to take the win
and advance in the winner’s bracket.
Dodds led the way for the Choctaws with 17 points while Seabourn
added 13 in the loss.
Dyer County will face Gibson County on Monday in the consolation
round of the tournament at 1:30 p.m.

Meeting for the third time this season without having a
home-and-home series scheduled, the Lady Lions finally got the better of Dyer
County thanks to a strong second half from Camden.
A nine-point effort from Abrianna Wallace in the fourth quarter
for the Lady Lions led the Camden effort. The Lady Choctaws got three-point
efforts from Alayna Leedy, Ava Pearson and Julie Cogdill, but came up short as
Camden held on for the win.
Pearson and Tatum each led the way for the Lady Choctaws with
ten points apiece in the loss.
Dyer County faces McKenzie in the consolation round of the
tournament on Monday at noon.
