Lake County takes second half, defeats Gibson County

The Lake County boys picked up a win in their first post-Christmas game, taking an 84-75 win over Gibson County on the first day of the Huntingdon Point Guard Coca-Cola Christmas Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Huntingdon High School.

With the score tied at 38-38 after two quarters, the Falcons got four three-pointers from Aikee Ward as part of a 21-point frame by the Lake County boys. While Gibson County was able to put some points on the board in the third frame, the green and gold defense held the Pioneers to 18to take a 59-56 lead into the final frame.

Thanks to a 10-point frame by Jay Ricks as part of a balanced scoring effort by the Falcons, Lake County was able to push its lead into double-digits at times on the way to the nine-point win.

Ward and Ricks each led Lake County with 22 points while Xander Hertel added 13. Jax Poole tossed in 10 in the win.

Lake County will take on the University School of Jackson on Monday at 4:30 p.m. on Monday in the tournament semifinals in Huntingdon.
