Trojans take care of business, get past Central

Despite trailing after two and a half innings, the Trojans answered in a big way with six unanswered runs then finished off the Rebels with a late surge on the way to an 11-4 win over Obion County Central on Wednesday at Crockett County in the opening round of the District 13-3A Tournament.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Dyersburg pulled even with the Rebels with an RBI double from JP Noblin to tie the game at 1-1 after three frames.

Dyersburg had a big inning in the bottom of the following stanza. A two-out single from Ethan Austin got things going as Ty Seaton drew a walk to load the bases. Jayce Ellerbrook drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Trojans on top. Evan Thompson drew another walk to plate a run then Noblin singled in another run to extend the lead to three runs. Alex Page then singled in another run to put Dyersburg on top 6-1 after four frames.

The Rebels answered with four runs in the fifth inning to cut the Dyersburg lead to 6-5 after four and a half frames.

With the game still tight late, Dyersburg put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth. Seaton walked to lead off the frame then Ellerbrook singled. Thompson doubled in a run then Noblin drove in two more. Page followed with a two-run homer to put the Trojans on top 11-4 heading into the seventh inning.

The Trojans worked around a one-out walk and a base hit to get a double play to end the game and advance to the winner’s bracket quarterfinal on Thursday.

Will Leonard picked up the win, allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work, needing 75 pitches to do so.

Noblin had a pair of doubles and a single with four RBI in the win while page had a single and a homer while driving in four. Evan Thompson had a single and a double in the win.

The Trojans will take on top-seeded Crockett County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in Alamo.
