Dyersburg snaps skid, rides big win into playoffs

After falling last week to Westview, the Dyersburg Trojans looked to bounce back against the Ripley Tigers. In a game that never saw Dyersburg trail, the Trojans were able to handle business in the regular season finale 56-7 at J.C. Sawyers Stadium.

Dyersburg won the toss and differed, but recovered a pooch kick at the Ripley 45-yard line. After a 20-yard run by Quincey Terry Jr., a handoff to Peyton Hill went 25 yards for the Trojans score. The extra point by Elian Gonzalez was good, which made the score 7-0 in favor of Dyersburg.

The Tigers got the ball at their own 16-yard line to start their first drive, but the Trojans defense forced a three-and-out and got the ball at the Ripley 30-yard line. On the first play, a handoff to Hill went all the way for the Trojans touchdown. The extra point was good, extending the Dyersburg lead to 14-0.

Ripley got the ball at their own 20-yard line to start the next drive. On second-and-11, a Russell Houston pass was intercepted by Gonzalez at the 37-yard line. On first down, a Logston Morgan pass to Ty Seaton got down to the 10-yard line. On the next play, a toss to Terry found the end zone for the Trojan score. The extra point was good, making it 21-0, Trojans.


The Tigers got the ball at their own 27-yard line but went three-and-out, punting back to the Trojans, who got the ball at the Ripley 19-yard line. On the first play, a handoff to Necari Hall went all the way for the Trojans' score. The extra point was good, pushing Dyersburg’s lead to 28-0.

Ripley got the ball at their own 23-yard line and picked up one first down via penalty. On first-and-five, a Houston pass to Johnathan Currie was caught for a first down at midfield. On third-and-13, a sweep to Currie went down to the 35 and got a first down. On fourth-and-16 from the 26-yard line, a Houston pass to Currie fell incomplete, giving the Trojans the ball. On third-and-six, a QB run by Seaton got down to the Ripley 5-yard line. On second-and-goal, a handoff to Jaden Harris went in for the Trojan touchdown. The extra point by Jackson Duggan was good, which made the score 35-0.

Ripley got the ball at their own 20-yard line to start the next drive. On second-and-16, a Houston pass was intercepted by Gonzalez and returned for a touchdown. The extra point was good, pushing Dyersburg’s lead 42-0.

Ripley got the ball at their own 20-yard line to start the next drive. On third-and-16, a Houston pass was intercepted by Seaton and taken back for a touchdown. The extra point by Celso Gonzalez was good, which made the score 49-0.

Ripley got the ball back at their own 16-yard line. On second-and-nine from the 14-yard line, a pass from Houston to Calvin Halloway found the end zone for the Tigers' touchdown. The extra point by Edgar Flores was good, which cut the Dyersburg lead to 49-7.

Dyersburg got the ball at their own 45 yard-line to start the next drive. On first-and-10 from the 17-yard line, a handoff to Ty’marion Hill went the distance for the Trojan score. The extra point was good, which made the score 56-7 Trojans as time ran out.

Dyersburg will hit the road for the opening round of the playoffs as the Trojans will travel to the Region 8-3A runner-up, likely Bolton, next Friday night at 7 p.m.
