Despite taking a big lead early on only to see it dwindle away by the end of the opening frame, the Trojans had a hard time recovering from a pair of strong quarters by Obion County Central and fell to the Rebels 70-65 on Friday night in the Terry Glover Gymnasium for Homecoming 2025.

Trailing by eight heading into the final quarter of the District 13-3A matchup, the Trojans were able to chip away at the Rebel lead. With 3:35 left the game, Trojan Breyden Turnage grabbed a rebound of a missed DHS shot and put it back in to cut the Central lead to 59-55. The Rebels responded though, building their lead back to eight 1:38 left in the contest with a Tanner Richmond bucket.

Dyersburg did not go quietly into the night though, getting two free throws from Jace Ward and another bucket by Turnage to cute the Rebel lead in half with just under a minute left. This late in the game, Dyersburg was forced to foul to get the ball back as the Rebels were able to hit five of six free throws over the final minute of action. The Trojans answered with two buckets from Jeff Cobb but a late turnover with apparent contact between a Trojan player and the Rebel bench sealed the win for the Rebels.

The Trojans opened the game hot, getting a pair of jumpers and two three-pointers from Cobb to open the game as part of a 12-0 run. The Rebels answered back in a big way, storming back with a 14-0 run powered by a balanced scoring attack. A pair of late Cameron Rhines free throws tied the game at 14-14 heading into the second quarter.

Lead by an eight-pointer from Richmond, the Rebels took a double-digit lead during the second quarter before a six-point frame by Jace Ward cut the Central lead to 34-25 at the half.

After only scoring 11 points in the second quarter, the Trojans responded much better in the third frame. Eight points from Turnage and six by Ward along with four free throws sunk by Cobb helped Dyersburg to a 20-point frame. The Rebels were able to keep with the pace though, getting a 19-point frame to allow the Trojans to only inch a point closer and trail 53-45 heading into the final eight minutes.

Cobb led the way for the Trojans with 21 points while Ward and Turnage each added 14 apiece in the loss.

Dyersburg returns to action on Tuesday when the Trojans host Crockett County in another District 13-3A tilt. Girls action begins at 6 p.m. with the boys game to follow.
