Dyersburg opened the game with an offensive punch which knocked Crockett County on the mat early then added to lead on the way to a 57-30 win over the Lady Cavaliers in the Region 7-3A Semifinals on Monday night at Dyer County High School in Newbern.
The win puts the Lady Trojans in the Region 7-3A
Championship for the third straight season and secures Dyersburg a sectional
round game for the third year in a row as well.
Dyersburg came out in the opening quarter and hit some haymakers
right away, getting three-pointers from Aerie Quinn, Joya Crawford and Kay Kay
Strayhorn as part of a 13-0 run to open the game. Kalee Castellaw finally got
the Lady Cavaliers on the board with a bucket before another Strayhorn
three-pointer opened a 9-1 scoring spree by Dyersburg to end the quarter. The
Lady Trojans took a 22-3 lead after one quarter.
Crockett County’s offense performed better in the second
quarter, more than doubling its output from the first frame. But, with
three-pointers from Chelby Jordan, Crawford and Kathleen Harrell to lead the
way, the Lady Trojans were up to the task. Dyersburg got a late Jordan bucket
to take a 35-11 lead at the half.
In a quarter where both offenses struggled to score, the Lady Trojans got two buckets from Crawford and a three-pointer by Jordan early on to stay ahead of the Crockett County pace. Dyersburg added an Elizabeth Lemons bucket to push its lead to 44-17 heading into the third quarter.
Over the course of the last eight minutes, the Lady Trojans
matched Crockett County point for point to secure the win.
Crawford and Jordan each led the way for Dyersburg with 14
points each while Strayhorn added 12 in the win.
Dyersburg will face the winner of Monday’s second semifinal
game between Dyer County and South Gibson at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night at Dyer
County High School.
