Lake County baseball falls at home to Gleason

Though the Lake County bats were able to match the Bulldogs hit for hit on Monday during the opening game of a busy week for the Falcons, the green and gold fell 9-6 to Gleason in Tiptonville.

The Bulldogs got on the board early, scoring three times on two hits including a two-run homer from Legens to go up 3-0 after a half inning.

The Falcons got two of those runs back in their half of the first inning. Bryson Johnson reached on an error then scored when Sawyer Roberson doubled to score him. Roberson scored later in the inning on a passed ball to cut the Gleason lead to 3-2 after one inning.

Gleason added a run in the top of the second but the Falcons answered in the bottom of the third with a Chance Estes RBI single to score a run and cut the Bulldog lead back to 4-3 after three innings.

The Bulldogs picked up another run in the top of the fifth to push their lead to two runs after four and a half innings.

Lake County had an answer in the bottom of the frame. A two-out single from Jake Clanton scored a run. Clanton then scored on an error to tie the game at 5-5 after five innings.

But, a bases-loaded walk plated the go-ahead run for Gleason in the top of the sixth inning to give the Bulldogs a 6-5 lead. The Bulldogs then padded that lead with three more in the top of the seventh.

Lake County got a run back in the bottom of the seventh, getting an RBI single from John Aydon Cochran to cut the Gleason lead back to three runs with one out. But, a strikeout and a ground out ended the Lake County threat and sealed the win for the Bulldogs.

Estes had a single and a double with an RBI to lead the way for the Falcons at the plate.

Lake County hits the road on Tuesday, traveling to Gleason at 5 p.m. for the conclusion of the home-and-home set with the Bulldogs.
