Lake County baseball opens season with win at West Carroll

The Lake County Falcon baseball team opened its 2025 season
on Thursday evening on the road on Thursday, defeating West Carroll 12-2 in Atwood.
The Falcons got on the board in the top of the first inning,
getting Jake Clanton on via a leadoff walk. Clanton crossed the plate later in the
inning on a wild pitch to put Lake County up 1-0 after a half inning.
Lake County benefitted from a leadoff walk in the second
inning as well as Bryson Johnson scored via a pair of errors later in the inning to double
the Falcon lead. Nate McCoy also walked and scored on a dropped third strike to
put the Falcons on top 3-0 after an inning and a half.
After West Carroll cut into the Lake County lead in the bottom
of the second, the Falcons got on the board with four runs in the top of the
third. Dakahi Clark doubled in two while Chance Estes doubled in another run before
scoring on a Johnson groundnut to put Lake County on top 7-1.
An unearned run by the War Eagles in the bottom of the third
put West Carroll back on the board but Lake County matched the run in the top
of the fourth inning. A Sawyer Roberson double led to the run as he scored later in
the inning on an error on a dropped third strike to push the Falcon lead to 8-1
after three and a half frames.
Two innings later, the Falcons got on the board with a trio
of runs in the top of the sixth inning. Base hits by Roberson, Clark and Estes
all produced runs to put the Lake County lead at 11-2 heading into the bottom
of the sixth.
The Falcons tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh
before securing the win on a double play to seal the victory.
Roberson had a double and two singles to lead the way for
the Falcons with an RBI as well. Clark and Estes each had a single and a double
in the win.
Estes picked up the win on the mound, allowing two runs on
two hits with eight strikeouts in three innings of work.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday for their home
opener against Lakeland Prep at 1 p.m. in Tiptonville.
