Trojans top Halls for ten-run road win

After suffering a pair of losses in a row, Dyersburg’s baseball team got back on the winning track on Wednesday, jumping out to a five-run lead early on the way to a 10-0 win over Halls at Rockabilly Stadium in Jackson.

With Evan Thompson reaching on an error to lead off the game and a one-out single from Alex Page, the Trojans were in business in the top of the first inning. Will Leonard singled in a run then JP Noblin reached on an error which allowed another run to score. With two outs, Ryan Wesson also reached on an error which resulted in another Dyersburg run. Leoard Cohen singled in another run before Wesson scored moments later on a passed ball to give the Trojans a 5-0 lead after a half inning.

With five runs of support before evening throwing a pitch, Noblin cruised through the bottom of the first, striking out the side.

The Trojans didn’t get back onto the board again until the top of the fifth inning. Thompson drew a walk then stole third later in the inning before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Page to put Dyersburg up 6-0 after four and a half innings.

With one out and Jayce Ellerbrook on third after a flyout in the top of the sixth, a grounder to second allowed him to score and extend the Dyersburg lead to seven. Cohen singled then a two-out triple from Thompson plated another run. Page followed two batters later with a two-run triple to put the Trojans on top 10-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Wesson closed out the game, striking out two of the five batters he faced in the frame to secure the Trojan victory.

Thompson and Page each had a triple and a single to lead the way for Dyersburg at the plate. Leonard had a pair of singles as well.

Noblin picked up the win, allowing no runs on two hits with eight strikeouts in five innings of work.

Dyersburg returns to action on Friday when the Trojans travel back to Jackson to take on McEwen at 2 p.m. at Rockabilly Stadium.
