Dyersburg Middle wins TMSAA Region Championship

Image
In their first year back in the TMSAA, the Dyersburg Trojan soccer team ends that part of the postseason on the mountain top as the black and gold defeated Arlington 1-0 on the Tigers homefield in the TMSAA Regional Championship Game on Monday evening. In a game where goals came at a high premium, the DMS squad got the only goal of the game near the 20-minute mark of the first half. On the goal, Trojan goalkeeper Cooper Duggan found an open Leon Vega, who took the ball down the field and scored the game’s only goal. From then on, it was just a matter of the DMS defense doing what it does best and keeping the other team off the board. And the Trojans did just that, holding the Tigers off the board for the remainder of the first half and all of the second to get the win and the region championship. Though this brings an end to the Trojans’ TMSAA play (there isn’t a state tournament for soccer until the 2025-26 school year), DMS still has one more tournament title it can claim...

The Choctaws looked to back on the board as well, getting a leadoff single from Kierstyn Ray and a one-out walk by Rylee Key before a lineout and a fly out ended the Dyer County threat. But, with one out in the frame, a Teague groundout nearly ended the inning as Dyer County first baseman Katie Beth Caldwell fielded the ball and stepped on the base...
