DMS soccer cruises past Martin in tournament opener

A busy postseason continued for the Dyersburg Middle School soccer team as the Trojans opened the West Tennessee Regional Soccer Conference Tournament with a 4-1 win over visiting Martin on Saturday night at J.C. Sawyers Stadium.


After back-and-forth action during the first ten minutes of the game, Dyersburg got on the board in the 11th minute with a goal from Hunter McDonald to put the Trojans on top 1-0.

Four minutes later, McDonald struck again, putting the ball in the goal for the second time in the game to put Dyersburg on top 2-0 in the 15th minute.

inute to extend the DMS lead to 3-0 at the half.

Dyersburg picked up another goal early in the second half, this one coming from the foot of Porter Schultz to push the Trojan lead to four goals in the 33rd minute.

From there, the Trojans only gave up one late goal from Martin to take the win and advance in the tournament.

With the win, Dyersburg moves into the next round to take on the winner of Monday night’s game between Paris Inman and Crockett County. Dyersburg’s record stands at a perfect 12-0 after Saturday night’s victory.

Before taking on either the Bulldogs or Cavaliers, DMS travels to Arlington on Monday night at 5:30 p.m. to take on the Tigers in the TMSAA Regional Championship Game.
