Just about a month after the season came to a close one game shy of playing for a second straight TSSAA Class 3A State Championship, a pair of Dyersburg Lady Trojans were named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State Team.

Lady Trojan senior Joya Crawford and junior Chelby Jordan were among 15 players throughout the state in their class who were named to the all-state team.

“I am really proud for both of them,” Dyersburg Head Coach Tim Strayhorn said. “Both of them are really skilled basketball players. Both have got a very high I.Q. of the game.

“They’ve put in a lot of work. And they both deserve it. They both have been to the state tournament the last three years in a row. It’s a well-deserved award for them.”

Crawford, who has signed with Cincinnati to continue her basketball career at the next level, makes the team after finishing her senior season as a finalist for the Class 3A Miss Basketball award. It is the second straight season she has received this honor.

“Joya has scored over 2,000 points in her career,” Strayhorn said. “Her skill and her basketball I.Q are very high. The main thing is that she is just a good person.”

Jordan, a junior, received the all-state honor for the first time in her career.

“Chelby is probably one of the most skilled players in this area,” the Lady Trojans’ head coach said. “She’s got a real high basketball I.Q. and she has a real good work ethic.

“She is a very good kid. You put all that together, you’re going to have success.”
