Dyersburg opens week with win over Central

 

The Trojans snapped their skid in District 13-3A and got the final week of the regular season underway on a positive note with a 7-2 win over visiting Obion County Central on Monday night at Tom Mathis Field in Dyersburg.

After holding the Rebels off the board in the top of the first inning, the Trojans got on the board with a pair in the bottom of the frame. Evan Thompson and Ryan Wesson led off the frame with singles. After Thompson scored on a passed ball, Wesson was plated on an Alex Page sacrifice fly to put the Trojans on top 2-0 after one inning.

Dyersburg added to its lead int eh bottom of the third as Wesson singled then Page doubled which led to an RBI single from JP Noblin. Jayce Ellerbrook then cleared the bases with a two-run home run to put the Trojans on top 5-0 after three frames.

Central got to runs back in the top of the fifth when Poston Essary reached on an error which scored two runs and cut the Dyersburg lead to 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

The Trojans worked quickly and got those runs back. Both runs came on back-to-back RBI singles from Aiden Chandler and Ethan Austin to give Dyersburg a 7-2 lead heading into the sixth frame.

From there, the Dyersburg defense worked around an error and a walk in the sixth then a two-out walk in the seventh to get the win.

Page led the way at the plate for the Trojans with a double and a single while Wesson and Noblin each had two singles in the win. Ellerbrook’s homer was the only other extra base hit out of Dyersburg’s ten hits.

Noblin picked up the win on the mound, allowing two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work.

The Trojans return to the field on Tuesday when Dyersburg travels to Troy to take on the Rebels in the final game of the home-and-home series. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
