Dyer County softball rallies past Crockett County
The Choctaw softball team bounced back from its first District 13-3A loss on Monday with a come-from-behind win on the road at Alamo, scoring four times in the seventh inning to defeat Crockett County on Tuesday.
Dyer County got on the board in the top of the first inning
with an RBI double by Emma Wray to take a 1-0 lead after a half inning.
Crockett County answered in a big way, scoring three times
in the bottom of the first and four more in the bottom of the second to take a
7-1 lead after two innings.
The Choctaws got three of those runs back in the top of the
third inning. With two out and Rylee Key on after a fielder’s choice, Wray
reached on an error then Katie Beth Caldwell
walked to load the bases. Allie Ables singled in two then a Natalie Armstrong
double plated another run to cut the Crockett County lead to 7-4 after two and
a half innings.
Dyer County inched closer in the top of the fourth with two outs.
An RBI single from Key plated Rylee White, who had led off the inning with a single
to pull the Choctaws to within two at 7-5.
Crockett looked to get an insurance run in the bottom of the
sixth on a White RBI double to go up 8-5 after six innings.
The Choctaws, who scored late on Monday night, repeated this
on Tuesday night but this time in their final at bat. Key and Wray each reached
on errors then a three-run homer from Caldwell tied the score at 8-8. Ables
followed with a single then her pinch runner Emma McGavock advanced to second
on an Armstrong sacrifice bunt. A groundout then moved her to third before
Molly Kate Woody reached on an error to plate McGavock and put Dyer County on
top 9-8 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Three straight fly balls in the Crockett half of the frame
ended the game and sealed the win for the Choctaws.
Ables and Kierstyn Ray each had a pair of singles for the Choctaws
while Caldwell homered and Armstrong and Wray had a double each.
Woody picked up the win in relief, allowing one run on three
hits with two strikeouts in four innings of work.
Dyer County continues a busy week when the Lady Choctaws host
