The Lake County Middle School Falcons dropped a pair of
games at Ripley on Wednesday, falling to the Tigers in back-to-back games on
the road.
Game 1: Ripley 7, Lake County 2
The Falcons scored early to take the lead but the Tigers
scored five straight then tacked on two in response to a Lake County run to
seal the win in Game 1
The Falcons got on the board in the top of the first inning.
Levis Whitson drew a one-out walk then scored on Harrison Metoyer’s triple to
give the Falcons a 1-0 lead after a half inning.
After Metoyer struck out the side in the bottom of the first, Lake County was unable to capitalize when MJ Porter walked with one out and Ethan Shell was hit by a pitch with two outs as a groundout ended the Lake County threat.
The Tigers rewarded their defense in the bottom of the
second, scoring three times in the frame then tacked on two in the third to
take a 5-1 lead after three frames.
Lake County was able to get a run back in the top of the fourth.
Jakobe Clan was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame. Two batters later, Porter
singled him in to cut the Ripley lead to 5-2 heading into the bottom of the
fourth.
With time running out in the fourth, Ripley added two insurance
runs to secure the win.
Metoyer’s RBI triple in the first inning was the lone extra base
hit of the Falcons’ four hits.
Game 2: Ripley 10, Lake County 5
A six-run first inning by the Tigers set the tone as Ripley
sealed the doubleheader sweep with a victory in three innings.
After the six-run first frame by the Tigers in the top half
of the inning, Lake County got a run back with an RBI triple by Whitson to cut
the Ripley lead to 6-1 after an inning.
Ripley extended its lead back to six with a run in the top
of the second. Lake County answered with a run in the bottom of the inning as
Bentley Cox stole home to cut the Ripley lead back to 7-2 after two innings.
Ripley scored three times in the top of the third to take a 10-2 lead into the bottom of the frame.
The Falcons answered in kind in the bottom of the frame. Kaiden
Wallace was hit by a pitch to open the inning then Whitson drew a one-out walk
to put two on. Metoyer followed with a three-urn home run to center to cut the
Tiger lead to five. But, a pair of strikeouts ended the Lake County rally and
the game after three innings.
Metoyer’s homer and Whitson’s triple were the only two hits
of the game for the Falcons.
Lake County Middle School returns to action on Monday when
the Falcons host Northview at 6 p.m.
