Northview runs past Community Montessori to sectional title game

The Northview Lady Choctaws will have a chance to defend their sectional championship from last season as the orange and white from Newbern needed just two trips to bat to get a 15-0 win over the Mavericks in the TMSAA Class A Section 4 Tournament on Wednesday night in Jackson.

Northview set the tone in the bottom of the first inning, nearly hanging a double-digit inning on the Mavericks. Kate Benedetto singled and scored when Emily Hall reached on an error to put the Lady Choctaws on the board. Lyla Beth Woody singled two batters later and Anna Reid Yates followed with an RBI single to double the Northview lead. Ellie Permenter doubled in a pair of runs before Lilly Tucker walked and Emmalee Sweatt was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Benedetto walked to bring home a run and Harper Peery doubled in two more before Hall reached on an error to score two runs that put Northview on top 9-0 after one inning.

Northview added to its lead in the bottom of the second. Woody singled then Yates reached on an error to score a run. After Tucker drew a walk and the Mavericks recorded an out, Sweatt singled in two runs to put the Lady Choctaw lead at a dozen. Benedetto tripled in a run and Peery followed with a sacrifice fly to score her. After Hall reached on an error Ella Wright singled in a run to put Northview on top 15-0 heading into the third.

From there, the Lady Choctaws allowed only a walk and the only hit of the night by the Mavericks before getting a pair of groundouts to end the game via mercy rule.

Sweatt picked up the win, holding the Mavericks to one hit with three strikeouts in the three-inning victory.
