After a tough go of it in the opening scrimmage of the 2025
preseason, the Choctaws looked a little better in their second time on the field
against a different team as Dyer County travelled to Trinity Christian Academy
on Friday night in Jackson.
According to Dyer County Head Coach Justin Dubruiel, there’s
room to improve for the Choctaws.
“Performance-wise, we aren’t there yet,” Dubruiel said. “We
aren’t as crisp as where I would like to be. However, we went in a different
format this week than last week. So, there’s some momentum-type things that
would take place in a regular game that might change how we played. But overall
trying to get better each week.”
There were areas where the first-year Choctaw head coach
felt his team did improve over last week’s trip to Munford.
“This week we ran the ball a lot better than we did last
week,” Dubruiel said. “We have to work on our pass protection and recognition
not just by the O-line but also by the quarterback. Running backs pass blocked
better this week which is growth from last week.
“Defense-wise, we showed some flashes of getting
everyone to the ball and there were times where we did not. Defensive backs, we harped on getting in our
back pedals for our coverages all week and we did that much better at that. We
have to use this scrimmage to communicate better on the field.”
Dyer County wraps up its preseason on Friday night, Aug. 15,
when the Choctaws take on Westview in the opening game of the Star Physical
Therapy-West Tennessee Bone & Joint Clinic High School Football Jamboree at
Dyersburg High School.
There are things Dubruiel wants to see his team improve upon
heading into the close of the preseason.
“We have to be better disciplined much like last week,” Dubruiel
said. “We get going on a roll then one bad thing happens and we put ourselves
behind the chains. That makes it hard to recover.”
