The Obion County Middle School Rebels continued their strong
start to their expansion campaign as the blue and red made a first-quarter
score hold up and took an 8-6 win over visiting Crockett County on Tuesday night
in Troy.
The win came thanks to a quartet of stops by the Rebel defense
late in the fourth quarter as Obion County forced four incomplete passes to
seal the win.
“I just preach all the time don’t give up. Play the next play.
Doesn’t matter, just play the next one. We had to make sure we just kept doing the
same things we’d been doing the whole game. We held them to six points so there’s
no reason to change things once you get down there. You’ve just got to make it
happen.”
Following the stand near the goal line, the Rebels ran out
the clock to notch their fourth straight win to open the season.
“Going into the rest of our schedule 4-0 is a big deal,”
Austin explained. “We’ve got some tough teams coming up. This is a good
momentum builder for us.
“This has been a really tough two weeks for us – especially playing
a Thursday then a Tuesday. The turnaround is a testament to our kids and the
job they’re doing.”
The Rebels got on the board by scoring on the first drive,
capping the opening possession with a 35-yard touchdown play on a jet sweep to
Riley Quillions to put Obion County on the board. The two-point conversion
pushed the OCMS lead to 8-0 in the first quarter.
Crockett County’s lone touchdown came late in the first half
to cut the Rebel lead to 8-6 before Obion County’s defense stopped the
two-point attempt in the backfield to keep the two-point lead safe.
Obion County Middle School returns to action on Thursday,
Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. when the Rebels travel to Fulton County, Ky.
