Coming off a three-touchdown win over visiting Hardin County
last Friday night in Newbern, the Choctaws (3-0, 1-0) will look to continue
their victorious start to the season as Dyer County travels to Crockett County
this Friday night for another Region 7-4A matchup.
With the first home game and region contest now in the rear
view mirror, Choctaw Head Coach Justin Dubriuel talked about what he wants his
team to take from last week’s win over the Tigers.
“The biggest takeaway from last week was it was a complete
team win,” Dubruiel said. “As we talk about all the time, we played for the
family.
“When we play for one another and not for selfish reasons,
we are pretty solid.”
Looking ahead to the Friday night clash with the Cavaliers
in Alamo, Dubruiel said Crockett County’s offense is multifaceted.
“They have some guys that can run,” the Choctaw head coach
said. “And, the quarterback is good. They are big and physical up front.”
On the other side of the ball, the Cavaliers make it a
challenge on other teams to move the ball.
“They load the box up and make it difficult to run the ball,”
Dubruiel said. “And the skill guys are really solid at assignment football on
the back end.
“Hopefully we can find some holes in the defense to be
successful.”
Not only has Crockett County been a big rival in region play
in recent years, this week’s game is largely about continuing the momentum from
the previous three weeks.
“We have to maintain the momentum and create this snowball
effect,” Dubruiel added. “Each week builds on each other. If we can get to 2-0
in the region, that will be huge for us in where we want to be playoff wise.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday night in Alamo.
