The Choctaws will look to get back on the winning track –
both overall and in Region 7-4 – this Friday night as Dyer County travels to
Medina to take on South Gibson in another region matchup.
Dyer County dropped its first game of the season this past
Friday night, falling 56-27 to North Side in Newbern. Choctaw Head Coach Justin
Dubruiel shared the biggest takeaway he wants for his team coming off the first
loss of 2025.
“The biggest takeaway is that the way our region is set up,”
Dubruiel said. “We have a lot of good teams that can take advantage of any
miscues that you have.
“So we have to be able to adapt and overcome some of those
things. We can’t let this loss define who we are and define the season. We get
region games from here on out minus one week.”
Moving ahead to this Friday night and the game with South
Gibson, Dubruiel said the Hornets are a very physical team, offensively.
“Offensively, they lineup and hit you in the mouth
physically,” the Choctaw head coach explained. “They control the clock and have
different options of who is getting the ball.”
The front part of the Dyer County defense will need to set
the tone for the Choctaws this week.
“The front seven or eight guys need to be on their toes,”
Dubruiel said. “We have secure tackles and read our keys for us to be
successful.”
On the other side of the ball, the front seven of the Hornets
will look to set the tone for the South Gibson defense.
“Defensively, their front four guys are physical,” Dubruiel
said. “Linebacker-wise, they are fast to the football.”
According to Dubruiel, the boys up front with the offensive
line will need to take care of business this week.
“Offensively, we are challenging the offensive line in our
run blocking and pass blocking this week,” Dubruiel said.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night in Medina at South
Gibson High School.
