After a pair of road victories and a bye week, Lake County flies
back home on Friday as the Falcons will host Gleason, making their return to Tiptonville
for the first time since the season opener.
Though their bye week was earlier than most, Falcon Head
Coach Hunter Short said his team was able to benefit from having Week 4 of the TSSAA
of the season off.
“The biggest thing we were able to benefit from the bye week
was to be able to heal up a little bit from our previous three games to get
ready for the stretch of starting region play,” Short explained. “I think the
rest will help the guys going forward.”
Of the seven games remaining on the Falcons’ schedule, six
are against teams from Region 7-1A, including the final five of 2025.
Heading into this week’s contest with Gleason, Short sees
places where the Bulldogs can give his team some fits.
“The quarterback can spin it well and they have some skill
players that are very talented in the open field,” the Lake County head coach
said.
The Falcons will have to play well defensively, especially
in one area Short said the green and gold need to have a good game.
“The secondary will be under the microscope this week as
they will test us on the back end,” Short pointed out.
On the other side of the ball, the Bulldog defense plays
hard and rallies to the football.
Short knows what it is going to take to put the ball into
the end zone against the orange and black defense.
“Just our guys doing the little things and making sure they
know their assignment play in play out,” Short said.
Friday night is going to be a night where the Falcons honor a
pair of teams from the past and it’s something the current head coach is
excited about.
“Looking forward to a great crowd Friday night as we welcome
back some special groups on men with 1980 and 1985 state championship teams
being brought back for a reunion,” Short said. “I am very appreciative for what
those guys have done to pave the way for Lake County Football and the community
on and off the football field.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday night in Tiptonville.
