Lake County heads to Ripley in non-region tilt

Coming off a two-point bounce back win last Friday night in
Cordova, Lake County (1-1) will look to move a game above .500 as they travel
to Class 4A’s Ripley (0-2) this Friday night.
Trailing late in the first half, the Falcons pulled in front
to take a 16-14 halftime lead which held up through the second half over St.
Benedict.
Lake County Head Coach Hunter Short shared what he wants his
team to take away from last week’s win.
“I want us to carry momentum from last Friday into this week
and keep stacking good days,” Short explained. “We have a lot to clean up but I’m
very proud of my guys handling the road trip Friday night and getting the ‘W’.”
Ripley’s game last week ended in a very early loss as the
Tigers fell 30-6 to Crockett County. A lighting issue caused the game to be
called after the opening quarter. Ripley has lost both games this year and have
been outscored 72-6.
The Tigers have a lot of speed on offense and Short was
pretty clear what his defense needs to do to be successful on Friday night in
Lauderdale County.
“The whole unit doing their jobs,” the Falcon head coach
said. “The two touchdowns we gave up Friday night was from people not doing
their job.”
On the other side of the ball, the Tiger defensive line is
big and athletic. This game could be a chance for the Falcons up front to
continue to grow up and gain experience.
“The O-line has to continue to improve to open up run lanes
for our running backs,” Short pointed out. “We played better Friday night but
far from perfect.”
Kickoff is currently set for 7 p.m. on Friday night in
Ripley.
