Thanks to a strong second half, the North Side Indians handed Dyer County its first loss of the 2025 season, outscoring the Choctaws 28-6 in the final 24 minutes to take a 56-27 win in Newbern on Friday night.

North Side got the scoring started after a Dyer County turnover early in the first quarter. The Indians got on the board with a Lowe Wallace 33-yard pass. The extra point was blocked but the Indians led 6-0 just 18 seconds into the game.

Dyer County answered moments later as Landon Daniels capped a quick Choctaw drive with an eight-yard run for the touchdown. The extra point put the orange and white on top 7-6 with 10:14 left in the first frame.

The Indians got back on the board with a 58-yard run by Demingo Maupin with 4:47 left in the first quarter. North Side added a two-point conversion to go up 14-7.

The Choctaws tied the game with a seven-play, 40-yard scoring drive. KeAnthony Barbee capped the drive with a three-yard run. The extra point tied the game at 14-14 with 45 seconds left in the first quarter.

The back-and-forth scoring continued into the second quarter as North Side’s Maupin scored again, this time from 36 yards out to cap an 80-yard drive made up of five plays. The extra point put the Indians on top 21-14 with 9:49 left in the half.

Dyer County got back on the board later in the half when Daniels hit Barbee for a 29-yard pass. The extra point tied the game at 21-21 with 5:40 left in the half.

The Indians got on the board one last time before the half as Jenkins scored on a three-yard run with just over three minutes left in the half. The extra point put North Side on top 28-21 left in the half.

The third quarter, though, belonged to North Side as the Indians added a trio of scores in the first 12 minutes of the second half.

Jenkins hit Wallace for a 40-yard touchdown pass and the extra point that followed was good. Jenkins then tacked on a pair of three-yard touchdown runs while adding a PAT and a two-pointer to give the Indians a 50-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Choctaws answered in the fourth frame with a seven-yard pass from Daniels to Hayward for a score with 8:54 left in the game. The extra point failed as Dyer County trailed 50-27.

The Indians tacked on an 11-yard run from Reed to seal the win for North Side.

Dyer County looks to bounce back on Friday, Sept. 26 when the Choctaws travel to Medina to take on South Gibson at 7 p.m.
