After a four-touchdown win over visiting Gleason to celebrate
homecoming last week, the Rebels are 3-0 as Obion County Central heads into Region
7-3A play with a tough road ahead of them in conference.
Looking back briefly, Central Head Coach Clayton Morris wants
his team to be able to adjust to the challenges of the game, like the ones the Rebels
face last week against the Bulldogs.
“The ability to adjust when plans aren’t going how we want,
but we still have to find a way to win and get the job done,” Morris said.
The next three weeks are going to go a long way to
determining the outcome of the Rebels season as they play Westview, Covington
and Dyersburg in consecutive weeks – traditionally the top three of the region.
Looking at the Charger offense highlighted by sophomore sensation,
quarterback Graham Simpson, Morris is quick to point out there is more to the
Westview offense than their signal caller.
“Really it’s their ability to be balanced,” the Central head
coach said. “They can beat you in so many ways.
“Throwing, running, big plays or steady drives. We have to
have unmatched energy and aggression to the ball.”
The defensive side of the ball is nothing to ignore either,
as far as Morris is concerned.
“Man, their D-Line is really good and really active,” Morris
explained. “It’s one of the best I’ve seen in my time at OC. It will be a fight
to get our run game going”
Even with the undefeated Rebels facing the defending Class
3A runner-up and a favorite to go deep into the playoffs, Morris and his team
looked to be pumped up for the challenge of the Chargers.
“It’s gonna be a great night of football in Troy!,” Morris
added. “How can you not be excited about this?
“As a competitor, you only get so many chances to compete
against the top. I could not be more excited to watch my family go to work!”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night in Troy.
