After a Week 2 rout of Gibson County 46-0
in Dyer last Friday, the Rebels of Obion County Central looked to keep that
momentum going into week two against the Gleason Bulldogs. On a homecoming
night that saw Rebels running back Tucker Moore break the all-time school
record for rushing touchdowns, Obion County Central once again had a shutout,
28-0 over the Bulldogs.
Gleason won the toss and elected to
receive. The Bulldogs went 3 and out and went to punt, but a bad snap gave the
Rebels the ball at the Gleason 11-yard line. Obion County Central lined up to
go for it on fourth and 5 from the 8, but turned over on downs, giving the
Bulldogs the ball at their own 5. The Rebels forced a three-and-out and got the
ball at the Bulldogs 29. After one first down, and a handoff to Tucker Moore
went 17 yards for a touchdown. The two-point attempt was no good, making the
score 6-0 Rebels.
On the first play of the ensuing Gleason
drive, a handoff to Gage Byington went from the Bulldog 37 down to the Rebel
10. On third down from the 10, a handoff to Byington gained 2. On fourth and
goal, a pass breakup by Tae Stallings forced a turnover on downs. A handoff to
Moore on the first play went 21 yards. Four plays later on fourth and 8 from
the Rebel 44, a handoff to Moore went for seven, but led to a turnover on downs
and ended the first quarter.
To start the second quarter, a Gleason
penalty made it 2nd and 15, and an incomplete pass made it third and 15. A sack
by Morgan Carpenter made it 4th and long and the Rebels got the ball at their
own 44. On first and 15 from the Bulldogs 40, a toss to Moore got down to the
14. Three plays later on first and goal from 3, Moore punched it in for the
Obion County touchdown. The two point attempt was successful, making the score
14-0 Rebels.
The Bulldogs got the ball at their own 27-yard
line. On third and 7, a Drake Lehmkuhl pass to Ashton Morgan went 13 for a
first down. Gleason then got into a third and 4 from the Rebels 40, which saw a
Lehmkuhl pass to Byington go down to the 30. On the next play, the Bulldogs
picked up at first via penalty and got to the Central 15. Gleason then got into
a fourth and 12 from the 17. A shot to
the end zone was incomplete, resulting in a turnover on downs at the Obion
County Central 17. The Rebels gained eight yards but went three and out and
punted with 36 seconds left in the half, and the Bulldogs ran out the remaining
time.
Obion County started the second half at
their own 25-yard line. A run-heavy drive got down to the Bulldog 10-yard line
in 5 plays. On second and 5, a handoff to Moore went the distance for a Rebels
touchdown and also set the record for most rushing touchdowns in school
history. The extra point by David Corona was good, making the score 21-0 Obion
County.
Gleason got the ball at the Rebels 40 40-yard
line. The Bulldogs gained no yards and got into a 4th and 10, where Lehmkuhl
had a pass that was incomplete, giving the ball back to the Rebels.
On third and long, a Tucker Phelon pass
was intercepted by Wylan Gustafson, giving Gleason the ball at the Rebels 30-yard
line. On third and 12, a handoff to Byington made it fourth and 4, but the
Bulldogs came up short, giving Obion County the ball at their own 20-yard line.
The Rebels picked up one first down before the drive stalled. Gleason got the
ball at their own 46-yard line as the third Quarter expired.
Gleason managed to pick up a first via a penalty.
On the third and 4, a handoff to Byington went for 10 to pick up a first down.
Two plays later on second and 10, a Lehmkuhl pass to Byington picked up just
enough for a first down. Two plays later on third and 2 from the Rebels 7 7-yard
line, a handoff to Byington was stopped at the line of scrimmage, making it fourth
and 2, but the drive was extended via penalty. On third and goal from the 3,
Lehmkuhl was stuffed to make it 4th and goal. The ensuing run was stuffed
behind the line for a turnover on downs at the Rebels 2-yard line. On the sixth
play of the drive, Moore took a toss all the way down to the Gleason 25-yard
line. On the next play, a handoff to Derek Argo went the rest of the way for
the Rebels touchdown. The extra point was good, making the score 28-0 Rebels.
The Bulldogs started the next drive at
their own 33-yard line and ran out the time on the clock, giving the Rebels the
28-0 victory.
Moore led the Central ground attack with
three touchdowns while carrying the ball 29 times for 257 yards.
Obion County Central hosts Westview next Friday night, Sept. 12 with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
