Coming off a long road trip which ended with a 21-0 win over
Camden Central last Friday night in a game which only lasted a little over a quarter
and a third, Dyersburg (2-1) will be on the road again this week as the Trojans
travel down to Selmer to take on McNairy Central (1-2) this Friday.
Heading into Region 7-3A play on a two-game winning streak, Dyersburg
Head Coach Bart Stowe said there are ways the Trojans can benefit from last
week’s long trip and brief game at Camden.
“We started fast,” Stowe said of the team’s ability to score
three touchdowns in just over a quarter of action. “Getting on the road, traveling
is a big thing. We haven’t been on the road since our first scrimmage of the
year.
“We were back on the road again, learning how to travel,
carrying your stuff and get there and be ready to compete when you get there.”
Stowe said he was proud of his team for how they competed
before lightning ended last week’s game.
“We challenged our guys, our coaches did a really good job
of getting our team ready, and the team really responded,” Stowe explained.
The Trojan head coach talked about where the Bobcats give
him and his staff concerns as they prepare to face McNairy this week.
“Last week, I was very proud of our defense getting the
shutout,” Stowe pointed out. “There’s an old saying – defense travels.
“Our defense did last week. And, they’ve got to do the same
thing this week, defensively. Go to McNairy Central and set the tone.”
One of the key players for the McNairy Central offense is quarterback
Case Stone.
“They have a multiple attack offense,” Stowe explained. “Their
quarterback is a runner and a thrower.
“They use multiple sets on offense and we’ve got to play good
team defense and set the tone.”
On the other side of the ball, the Bobcats’ defense have
shown mostly an odd front.
“They move a lot out of their odd front,” the Trojan head
coach said. “They slant their linemen and pinch them while bringing their
linebackers.
“We’ve got to have real good pad level and a real good path.
Our offensive line has got to set the tone for us. Our backs have got to run
hard. We’ve got to control the ball.”
Stowe added it’s important to cause the Bobcats to make
mistakes while not making any mistakes of their own.
“I’ve preached it to our guys – it’s about us and how we
execute,” Stowe said. “How we execute on offense, defense and special teams.”
Stowe talked about the importance of getting off to a good
start within the Region 7-3A schedule.
“Those first three ballgames, they mean a lot,” Stowe said. “But
this game means the most because it’s a region game and region games have
playoff implications to it.
“We’ve got to get on the road, get down there, play hard and
compete.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday evening in Selmer.
