On the biggest stage in high school golf at the Sevierville Golf Club, two local golfers are part of a four-way tie for third and are five strokes behind the leader in the TSSAA Class A State Tournament in Sevierville after action on Thursday.

Dyer County freshman Beau Thurman and Dyersburg junior John David Morris both came off the first day of 18-hole golf after shooting a one-over, 73 on the day. The current leader is Signal Mountain’s Sam Otwell, who is four strokes under par heading into Friday morning’s final round.

Thurman is not the only Dyer County golfer performing well. Sophomore Hoss Harrison shot a six-over, 78, which is good for a tie for 16th. Senior Seth LaRue came in with an eight-over 80, tied for 33rd. Benjamin Williams came off the course with a 10-over 82, which puts him in a tie for 39th.

The four scores are good for second place currently, with a 313 score. Signal Mountain currently leads the way with a 298. The Choctaws are five strokes ahead of third place Wayne County.

On the girls' side, Lady Choctaw golfer Kennedy Hill shot 16-over and is in a three-way tie for 28 place heading into Day 2.

Dyer County’s will look to make up ground on Friday when the Choctaws’ first golfer tees off at 8:30 a.m. EST. Thurman (tee off time, 9:14 a.m.) and Dyersburg’s Morris (tee off time, 9:47 a.m.) will also look to catch the leader on Friday for a chance at the individual title.
