Dyer County bounces back with win at Chester County

Coming off a pair of losses in region play, Dyer County got back on the winning track on Friday night in Henderson as the Choctaws defeated Chester County 42-10 to move to 5-2 heading into their bye week.

Dyer County got on the board in the opening quarter on a KeAnthony Barbee one-yard run for the score. The extra point put the Choctaws on top 7-0 with 7:50 left in the first quarter following a short drive.

The Eagles answered on their next possession with a Heath Stewart two-yard run with 4:30 left in the first frame. The extra point tied the game at 7-7.

Dyer County got on the board again in the second quarter. Barbee did the damage to Chester County again, as well, scoring on a one-yard run with 7:08 left in the half. The extra point put the Choctaws on top 14-7.

Barbee then broke the game open on the next Choctaw possession as he scored from 76 yards out to extend the Dyer County lead. The extra point put the orange and white on top 21-7 with 5:06 left in the half.

The Dyer County defense then got on the board to end the half as Ty Johnson snagged an errant Eagle pass and returned it 59 yards for the score. The PAT pushed the Choctaw lead to 28-7 at the break.

The Choctaws continued to add to their lead in the second half. Barbee scored his fourth touchdown of the night on a 21-yard run. The extra point put Dyer County on top 35-7 with 9:13 left in the third quarter.

Dyer County added another score midway through the fourth quarter. Marc Taylor scored on a two-yard run with 7:26 left in the half. The extra point gave the Choctaws a 42-7 advantage.

The Eagles added a late field goal to round out the game’s scoring.

Dyer County returns to action on Friday, Oct. 17 when the Choctaws host the University School of Jackson at 7 p.m.
