Westview tops Dyersburg in Region 7-3A action

After falling on the road last week to the Covington Chargers, the Dyersburg Trojans returned to J.C. Sawyers Stadium to face the Westview Chargers. In a game that saw Dyersburg take an early 9-0 first quarter lead, the Chargers became too much as the Trojans fell 65-30.

Dyersburg got the ball to start the game at their own 33-yard line. On second-and-four, a handoff to Santavion Williams gained seven for a first down. On the next play, Necari Hall took a run all the way down to the Chargers 21-yard line. On second-and-five, a handoff to Peyton Hill went for a first down. On third and goal, a Logston Morgan pass to Isaiah Thomas fell incomplete. On fourth down, the Trojans attempted an Elian Gonzalez field goal, which was good, making the score 3-0 for Trojans.

Westview got the ball at their own 47-yard line to start their first drive. Penalties backed up the Chargers and Dyersburg forced a third-and-9 from the Trojan 48-yard line, and a Graham Simpson pass came up short and left Westview with a fourth-and-2. A bad snap gave the Trojans the ball at the Charger 43-yard line. A Morgan pass on the first play to Quincey Terry Jr. got the Trojans down to the 12-yard line. On second-and-6, a handoff to Hill found the end zone after he broke multiple tackles. The extra point was no good, which extended the Dyersburg lead to 9-0.

The Chargers got the ball at their own 18-yard line to start the next drive. The Dyersburg defense forced a third-and-nine from the Westview 32-yard line but picked up the first down. The Chargers were then backed into a first-and-26 from the 38-yard line, and on third-and-3, an Asa Barnes run was stuffed in the backfield to force a fourth-and-5. A Trojan penalty made it first-and-goal from the 10. Two plays later, a handoff to Barnes found the end zone for the Westview touchdown. The 2-point attempt was good, making the score 9-8 Dyersburg.


Dyersburg got the ball at their own 26-yard line to start the next drive. Dyersburg were forced into a fourth-and-9 from their own 44 and punted. Christopher Damron fielded the punt at his own 20 and took it all the way for the Chargers score. The 2-point attempt was good, giving Westview a 16-9 lead.

The Trojans got the ball at their own 31-yard line to start the next drive. On the first play a handoff to Hall gained 15 for a first down. Four plays later, a Morgan pass was intercepted by Barnes and returned for a touchdown. The 2-point attempt was good, which made the score 24-9 Chargers.

Dyersburg got the ball at their own 20-yard line to start the next drive. The Trojans gained one first down via penalty then were forced to punt. The Chargers got the ball at their own 35-yard line to start their next possession. Barnes took a handoff on the first play all the way for a Westview touchdown. The extra point was good, which made the score 31-9 Chargers.

The Trojans got the ball at their own 41-yard line to start their next drive. A pass from Morgan to Ty Seaton was caught but stripped away by Miles Brown. Westview got the ball at their own 20, but time ran out in the first half with Westview leading 31-9, both teams got into a skirmish on the final play that saw Simpson get hit towards the sideline attempting a pass. This led to players from both sides getting ejected from the contest.

Westview got the ball to start the second half at their own 20-yard line. On the second play of the half, a Simpson pass was intercepted by Williams to give Dyersburg the ball at the Charger 46-yard line. On second-and-three, a handoff to Hill gained six for a first down. On first down from the 22, a Morgan pass to Seaton got down to the two-yard line. On the next play, a handoff to Hill got into the end zone for the Trojans score. The extra point was good, which made the score 31-16 Chargers.

Westview got the ball at their own 35-yard line to start the next drive. On second-and-10, a screen pass from Simpson to Barnes went all the way for the score. The extra point was good, which made the score 38-16 Chargers.

Dyersburg got the ball at their own 20-yard line. On second-and-eight, a handoff to Hill gained a first down. On the next play, a Morgan pass gained six. On second-and-4, a toss to Hall gained five for a first down. The Trojans then gained two first downs back-to-back via penalty. On second-and-nine from the 19-yard line, a toss to Hill found the end zone. The extra point was good, which made the score 38-23 Chargers.

The Chargers got the ball at their own 32. On the third play, a handoff to Barnes went all the way for the score. The extra point was good, which made it 45-23 Westview.

Dyersburg got the ball at their own 15-yard line to start their next possession. On third-and-8, a pass to Seaton gained 12 for a first down. On second-and-nine, a Hill run went all the way down to the Westview 21-yard line. On second-and-three, a Morgan pass went 14 yards and found the end zone. The extra point was good, making it 45-30 Chargers.

Westview’s kick return team then took the ensuing kick all the way for the touchdown. The extra point was good, making it 52-30 Westview

Dyersburg got the ball at their own 35-yard line to start the next drive, but were forced to punt. Westview got the ball at their own 40-yard line. On first-and-10 from the 38, a Simpson pass was broken up by Hall at the 2. Five plays later, a Simpson pass to Brown found the end zone. The extra point was blocked by Thomas Sartin, making the score 58-30, Chargers.

Dyersburg got the ball at their own 36 to start their next possession. A Morgan run gained eight on the first play. Two plays later, a Morgan pass was intercepted by Brown and returned for a touchdown. The extra point was good, which made the score 65-30, Westview.

The Trojans will host Ripley next week in the regular season finale on Thursday, Oct. 30. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
