For only the third time this season, both Dyersburg basketball
teams were in the same place on the same night as the Lady Trojans and Trojans
got the 2026 portion of their schedule started as the two hosted Ripley on
Saturday night in the Terry Glover Gymnasium.
Dyersburg’s girls picked up their sixth win in a row,
dominating Ripley from start to finish on Saturday night for a 58-29 win over
the Lady Tigers.
Led by a nine-point opening frame by Aerie Quinn as well as four-point
efforts from Chelby Jordan and K’Laya Currie, Dyersburg took a 21-6 lead after
one frame.
The Lady Trojans continued to add to their lead in the second
quarter. While the defense held Ripley to just five points in the final eight
minutes of the first half, Dyersburg got a three-pointer and a jumper from Lily-Kate
Jones to lead the way for the black and gold to take a 43-11 lead at the half.
During halftime, the Lady Trojans honored 2025 Dyersburg graduate and current Cincinnati player Joya Crawford by retiring the standout and 2024 TSSAA Class 3A State Tournament Most Valuable Player's jersey. Crawford becomes only the third basketball player in school history to have their jersey retired, joining Don Mann and Sherell Warren in the honor.
In a low-scoring third quarter, Quinn paced Dyersburg with
four points as the Lady Trojans extended their lead to 53-19 heading into the
final frame.
From there, with the clock running, Dyersburg Head Coach Tim
Strayhorn cleared his bench on the way to doubling up the Lady Tigers.
Quinn led Dyersburg with 17 points while Currie added 10 in
the win.
In the nightcap, turnovers and shooting woes for the Trojans in the first half put Dyersburg’s boys in a deficit they were unable to overcome as the Tigers took a 55-29 win over the black and gold.
Ripley got off to a hot start in the opening frame while the
Trojans were held scoreless as the Tigers took a 13-0 lead after one frame.
The Trojans finally got on the board 30 seconds into the second
quarter but fell further behind as Ripley pushed its lead to 25-9 going into
the half.
Jace Ward was able to get some offense going for the Trojans
in the third quarter, scoring seven in the first eight minutes of the second
half. Isaiah Thomas tossed in four to help out. But Ripley stayed just ahead of
Dyersburg’s pace to take a 37-20 lead heading into the final frame.
The Tiger defense held Dyersburg to just nine points over
the final frame to seal the win with an 18-point effort.
Ward led the way for the Trojans with 12 points in the loss.
Dyersburg returns to action on Tuesday when the Trojans and
Lady Trojans travel to Humboldt at 6 p.m. in their final tune-up for District
13-3A action which begins on Friday night.
