Playing their third game in four days, the Falcons led by double figures at the end of three quarters but were forced to gut out a third win in a row thanks to a hot finish by the Tigers as Lake County claimed the 60-55 win on Monday night in Tiptonville.

The Falcons carried a 12-point lead into the final frame and appeared ready to head to their third straight win with an easy fourth quarter. But, Halls’ Sawyer Tettleton got hot down the stretch, hitting four three-pointers. The fourth trey from the Tiger cut the Lake County lead to 57-55 with 1:07 left in the game.

Lake County was able to stop the bleeding there. Playing for possession, Halls sent Jax Poole to the line where he hit one of two free throws to push the Lake County lead back to three points with 54 seconds left. Ka’Devon Gross made a big defensive play with a steal then hit one of two free throws after being fouled with 34.7 seconds left. Moments later, a Tiger turnover forced Halls to send Poole to the line where he hit one of two free throws to make it a five-point game.

From there, though the Falcons missed four straight free throws, rebounding and defense was on their favor as both helped Lake County seal the five-point win.

Jay Ricks led the way for the Falcons with 20 points while Poole added 11 in the win.

The Lady Falcons jumped out to a lead early in the fourth quarter then kept their distance on the way to the 18-point win.

An eight-point frame by Mariah Valentine powered by being perfect in six attempts from the free throw line led the way for the Lady Falcons, who took a 15-2 lead after one quarter.

Valentine kept up the perfect performance from the line, hitting both attempts in the second quarter as well as two buckets. Along with four points from Laken Chism, the Lady Falcons took a 27-8 lead into the half.

Valentine paced the Lady Falcons again with seven points in the third quarter and wrapped up a perfect 11-for-11 performance from the line. Four points from Jordyn Burpo pushed the Lake County lead to 38-16 heading into the fourth quarter.

From there, the Lady Falcons cruised to the 18 point win to complete the season sweep of Halls and win their third in a row.

Valentine led the way for the Lady Falcons with 21 points while Yharia Bolden tossed in 13 in the win.

Lake County returns to action on Friday when the Lady Falcons and Falcons travel to South Fulton in District 14-A action tipping off at 6 p.m.
