Though the Cavaliers were able to cut into a Dyersburg lead during the fourth quarter of Friday’s District 13-3A opener in the Terry Glover Gymnasium, the Trojans silenced the Crockett County momentum with a late run to seal the 57-47 win to open the district slate with a victory to celebrate Homecoming 2026.

The Trojans came out of the locker room for the second half with a two-point lead. Over the course of the first eight minutes of the second half, the black and gold benefitted from a three-pointer and a jumper by Demonte Johnson as well as four points by Jace Ward to double their lead and headed into the fourth quarter with a 43-39 lead.

The Cavaliers battled back during the midway through the final frame, cutting Dyersburg’s lead back to three points at 45-42. But, the Trojans responded with a bucket from Isaiah Thomas to spark what turned into a 12-3 run capped by a Ward bucket with about 30 seconds left to seal Dyersburg’s first district win of the season.

Ward led the way for the Trojans with 20 points while Johnson added 14 in the victory.

The Lady Trojans began their pursuit of a third straight District 13-3A title on Friday night, delivering a knockout punch in the first frame on the way to a mercy-rule win over the Lady Cavaliers.

Led by buckets from Kayleign Strayhorn, Aerie Quinn, Chelby Jordan and Zya Currie, the Lady Trojans stormed out of the gates with a 9-0 run to open the game. Following Crockett County’s first bucket of the game, Dyersburg ended the opening frame with a 13-2 run which was powered by an 11-point frame from Strayhorn. The Lady Trojans took a comfortable 22-4 lead into the second frame.

Crockett County was able to get some more offense going in the second frame but Dyersburg’s defense still limited the Lady Cavaliers to 11 points. Meanwhile, Kathleen Harrell had a pair of three-pointers while Strayhorn and Currie each added a trifecta to give Dyersburg a 34-15 lead at the half.

Dyersburg’s defense stifled the Lady Cavaliers in the third frame, holding Crockett County to just three points. On the other end of the court, a pretty balanced scoring effort led by a three-pointer and a jumper from Brianna Parr helped Dyersburg push its lead to 46-18 heading into the final frame.

The Lady Trojans cruised through the fourth quarter on the way to the victory.

Strayhorn led the way for the Lady Trojans with 20 points while Currie added 10 in the win.

Dyersburg returns to action on Tuesday when the Lady Trojans and Trojans travel to Brownsville to take on Haywood at 6 p.m.
