With both teams coming into Tuesday night's contest with matching 0-3 marks in District 13-3A play, the Choctaws got their first win in district play thanks to a strong start on the way to a 63-48 win over the Cavaliers in Alamo.
The roles were reversed from the first game of the night as Dyer County's boys jumped out to a big lead before a Crockett County finally got on the board. The Choctaws got a pair of Triston Seabourn free throws with 3:10 left to go up 11-0 before a free throw by the Cavaliers put the home team on the board. Dyer County got a three-pointer as part of a nine-point scoring stretch from Jayden Tyler to help the Choctaws take a 27-7 lead after one quarter.
Crockett County was able to cut into the Dyer County lead briefly before a Seabourn bucket opened a run which saw the Choctaws build a 34-16 advantage after a pair of Jamin Gauldin free throws with 3:14 left in the half. Crockett surged again, trimming the Dyer County lead to 14 points with around two minutes left. The Choctaws closed out the second frame with four points from Perion Isom and three more by Devin Hayward to take a 41-20 lead into the half.
The Cavaliers were briefly able to make up some ground but the Choctaws got a late bucket from Seabourn to help Dyer County take a 56-38 lead into the final frame.
From there, the Choctaws held off Crockett County to get their first district win of the season.
Tyler led the way with 16 points while Hayward added 14. Seabourn tossed in 10 in the win.
