Second-half effort pushes Lady Trojans past South Gibson

Trailing by two at the half following a late Lady Hornet run, the Lady Trojans responded in the second half with a strong effort to take the lead before pulling away late for a 51-40 win over South Gibson in Medina on Friday night.
Dyersburg trailed 26-24 out of the break and fell behind by three early in the third quarter following a Lady Hornet free throw. But, a Joya Crawford jumper followed by a bucket from Kalli Maclin put Dyersburg on top by one. A Kay Kay Strayhorn three-pointer extended the Lady Trojan lead. Moments later, a buckets from Chelby Jordan and Crawford along with a three-pointer by Strayhorn extended the Lady Trojan lead to eight points. South Gibson battled back to cut the lead to in half but a late Crawford bucket put Dyersburg back on top 41-35 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Trojans added to their lead early in the final frame. A pair of free throws from Jordan put Dyersburg on top eight with 6:35 left in the game. South Gibson was able to cut the lead down to five then four midway through the final eight minutes. The Lady Hornets were forced to foul at this point to get the ball back which lead to Crawford and Jordan hitting seven of eight free throws down the stretch. In the meantime, South Gibson went cold from the field as the Lady Trojan defense shut them out the rest of the way to seal the 11-point win.
Three-pointers form Aerie Quinn and Jordan helped Dyersburg take an early lead before South Gibson ended the first frame on an 8-2 run to take a 12-8 lead after one frame.
Dyersburg battled back in the opening part of the second quarter, getting a three-pointer by Jordan to spark an 11-3 run to open the frame. It turned out to be a first half of runs as the Lady Hornets outscored Dyersburg 11-5 to take a 26-24 lead at the half.
Jordan led the way for the Lady Trojans with 15 points while Crawford added 14. Strayhorn tossed in 13 in the win.
Dyersburg returns to action on Saturday when the Lady Trojans travel to Poplar Bluff at 3:30 p.m. for non-district action.
