The Dyersburg Middle School girls wrapped up the first round of the TMSAA Class AA Section 3 Tournament on their home court on Saturday afternoon in dominant fashion, taking a 39-12 win over Fayette East in the quarterfinal round.

Though the Lady Trojans started off slow and the Lady Bulldogs hung around for a little bit in the first quarter, Dyersburg began to build its lead. Thanks in part to a 10-point from by TJ Jones, the Lady Trojans took a 13-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

With the defense continuing to hold the Lady Bulldogs in check, DMS continued to add to its lead in the second quarter. An eight-point from by Desleigh Strayhorn helped give the Lady Trojans a 21-8 lead at the half.

The DMS defense stepped up further in the third quarter, holding the Lady Bulldogs to just a lone free throw in the first six minutes of the second half. On the other end of the court, Strayhorn led the way with a 10-point frame to help the Lady Trojans take a commanding 33-9 lead into the final frame.

From there, the DMS girls cruised to the mercy-rule win.

Strayhorn led DMS with 19 points while Jones added a dozen in the win.

The Lady Trojans take on Haywood in the TMSAA Class AA Girls Section 3 Semifinals on Monday at 7:15 p.m. at DMS.
