Dyer County falls to Crockett County in 13-3A Consolation

Dyer County struggled to score and fell behind early,
falling 63-49 to the Crockett County girls in the District 13-3A Consolation Game
on Wednesday at Dyer County High School in Newbern.
The Lady Choctaws fell behind early, managing only a pair of Alijah Robinson free throws during the first five minutes o action. In the meantime, Crockett County got four points from Karlee Castellaw and a pair of Jordyn Maddox free throws to take an 8-2 lead with 3:43 left in the opening frame. The Lady Choctaws got a three-pointer from Tykeria Kennedy and a bucket by Anitra Honore to help cut the Lady Cavalier lead to 11-7. But, a three-pointer by Crockett’s Keeton Holyfield sparked a 9-2 run to end the frame which put the Lady Cavaliers on top 20-9 after one quarter.
The Lady Cavalier dominance continued into the second
quarter, opening the frame with 14-2 run. An Ava Pearson layup finally broke
the scoring spree by Crockett County but three points from Castellaw opened a
quick 5-1 run to give the Lady Cavaliers a 39-14 lead at the half.
Crockett County began to put the game out of reach in the
third quarter, opening the frame with a 12-0 run which didn’t end until an Emma
Ables bucket with 3:10 left in the frame and built the Lady Cavalier lead to 51-16.
Crockett county took a comfortable 51-23 lead into the fourth quarter.
From there, the Lady Cavaliers cruised to the win in consolation
action.
Molly Roberts led the way for the Lady Choctaws with 12
points in the loss.\
Dyer County will travel to Haywood on Friday night to take
on the Lady Tomcats at 7 p.m. in Brownsville.
