Dyersburg State rallies to take conference game from Roane State

Dyersburg State trailed by as much as ten during the fourth quarter on Saturday afternoon at home before outscoring Roane State 12-1 down the stretch to take a 68-67 win over the visitors in the Ed Lannom Jr. Gymnasium in Dyersburg.
The Lady Eagles entered the fourth quarter trailing 59-46 but were able to cut quickly into the lead thanks to buckets from Alana Seals and Sanayah Starks. But, Roane answered and built is lead back to 66-56 midway through the final frame. Dyersburg State had an answer and began one last push for the win. A Lilly Bennett bucket cut the deficit to 67-62 with just under two minutes left. A foul sent Roane State’s Jenna Bush to the line where she missed both shots. Seals then cut deep into the lead with a three-pointer with 1:13 left in the game.
Bennett made her second big play of the quarter with a seal and drove down for a layup. Though she missed, it was largely due to the foul which sent her to the line. She hit one of two attempts to cut Roane State’s lead to one with 42 seconds left.
Roane ran the clock down to the end of the shot clock before going for a shot with Bennett blocked with 15 seconds left. Dyersburg State got across midcourt and called a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Lady Eagles worked the ball to Seals who found an open Saniyah Williams in the paint. Williams then put the ball in with four seconds left.
The Roane State women had one more chance but were unable to get a quality shot off as Dyersburg State took the one-point win.
The Lady Eagles had a strong first quarter which saw the Dyersburg State women score almost as much in the first ten minutes than the next 20 which followed. The Lady Eagles were led by Makayla Skinner with a pair of three-pointers but trailed 25-22 after one frame.
Dyersburg State struggled in the second quarter, being held to just lone buckets from Jakarrah Anderson, Rebecca Wood, and Seals along with a Paris Halliburton free throw as the Lady Eagles trailed 40-29 at the half.
The Roane women then picked up a pair of points on their lead in the third quarter.
Seals led the way for the Lady Eagles with 19 points while Skinner and Bennett each added 10.
Dyersburg State returns to action when the Lady Eagles travel to Columbia State at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
