A slow start doomed the Lady Falcons as Lake County fell behind early on the way to a 62-34 loss to the Lady Tornados at Union City on Tuesday night.

A balanced scoring attack by Union City in the opening quarter set the tone for the night as Lake County was held to just a bucket and a free throw by Mariah Valentine and a deuce from Kaitlin Jones to trail 14-5 after one quarter.

With an eight-point quarter by Uriah Davis in the second frame, Union City began to pull away in the latter part of the first half. Laken Chism had a strong finish to the first half with a ten-point quarter but the Lady Falcons found themselves trailing 33-15 at the half.

Led by four points from Chism in the third quarter, the Lake County girls were held to just eight points in the first eight minutes of the second half. Meanwhile, Union City tacked on a dozen more to take a 45-23 lead into the final frame.

From there, the Lady Tornados cruised to the 28-point win in district play.

Chism led the way for the Lady Falcons with 16 points while Johnson and Valentine each added eight.

Lake County returns to action on Friday when the Lady Falcons host Dresden at 6 p.m.
