Lady Falcons soar back, come up short against Gleason

Just when it looked like the Lady Bulldogs were going to cost to a double-digit victory at Lake County the Lady Falcons - and senior Caron Johnson - made sure the Gleason girls knew they had played a tough game as the green and gold's fourth quarter rally came up just short with a 65-57 loss on Tuesday night in Tiptonville.

Trailing by 23 points heading into the fourth quarter, the Lady Falcons rallied back. A three-pointer from Laken Chism was followed by a standout performance from Lady Falcon senior Johnson, who hit four three-pointers and a bucket as part of a 17-0 run to bring the Lake County girls back and cut the Gleason lead to 51-45 with 4:26 left in the game. Gleason was able to respond, building their lead back to double figures on a brief occasion as a three-pointer from Destaney Mullins and another trey by Mariah Valentine cut the Lady Bulldog lead to six late before a pair of Gleason free throws sealed the win of the orange and black,

Lake County got on the board early and looked in control thanks to a pair of early three-pointers from Kaitlin Jones and Caren Johnson as well as back-to-back buckets from Lady Falcon #3. With the Lady Bulldogs hanging in there the whole way, the Lady Falcons got another trey each by Jones and Johnson as well as a pair of free throws by their senior  to take a 20-16 lead after one quarter.

Gleason came out stronger in the second quarter, dominating the scoreboard. Holding the Lady Falcons to just a pair of free throws from Chism, Gleason outscored Lake County 16-2 in the final eight minutes of the first half to take a 32-22 lead into the break.


The Lake County struggles continued in the third frame as the Lady Falcons were held to two free throws from Valentine and Jones as well as a bucket from Chism. Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs build what looked like a comfortable 51-28 lead heading into the last eight minutes of action.



Johnson led the way for the Lady Falcons with 27 points while Chism added 11 in the loss,

The Lady Falcons close out the regular season on Friday when Lake County hosts South Fulton at 6 p.m. in Tiptonville.
