With the end of the regular season approaching and the District 13-3A Tournament on the horizon, the Lady Trojans kept their eyes set on clinching a top spot in the district standings as they handed Dyer County a 73-43 loss on Friday night in Newbern.

Led by Kalli Maclin and Kay Kay Strayhorn early on, the Lady Trojans jumped out to a 14-2 lead midway through the opening quarter as an Aerie Quinn bucket capped the run. Dyersburg got three-pointers from Quinn and Strayhorn to bookend a 10-0 run to end the first quarter and give Dyersburg a 24-4 lead after one quarter.

Despite free throws from Julie Cogdill and Tykeria Kennedy early in the second frame along with a bucket by Alijah Robinson to keep the Lady Choctaws at pace with Dyersburg, the Lady Trojans went on a run moments later as back-to-back buckets from Joya Crawford extended the DHS lead to almost 30 with just under three minutes left in the half. The black and gold were able to hold a comfortable 45-17 lead at the half.

The Lady Trojans continued to put points on the board though the Lady Choctaws were able to get buckets from players like Zya Currie and Anitra Honore to keep from falling too much further behind. Dyersburg took a comfortable 65-34 lead into the final frame.

From there, with the clock running in mercy rule, the Lady Trojans held on to get the win.

Strayhorn led the way for Dyersburg with 17 points while Crawford and Jordan each added 15. Quinn tossed in 14 in the win.

Kennedy and Honore each led Dyer County with 13 points in the loss,.

The Lady Trojans host South Gibson on Tuesday night as the two teams will be playing for the top spot in the district. Meanwhile, Dyer County will take on Obion County Central at home the same night in another District 13-3A tilt. Both games are set to tip off at 6 p.m.
