Lady Trojans run past Dyer County in District 13-3A Semifinals

Dyersburg started the defense of its Class 3A State Championship on Monday night in Newbern, jumping out to a double-digit lead early and never looking back on the way to a 65-44 win over Dyer County in the District 13-3A Semifinals.
The Lady Trojans opened their postseason strong, jumping out
to a 9-0 lead after three-pointers from Chelby Jordan and Joya Crawford. Dyer
County was able to answer with a jumper and a three-pointer from Tykeria
Kennedy as well as free throws from Zya Currie and Kennedy. Dyersburg responded
with a pair of treys from Crawford and another three-pointer by Kay Kay Strayhorn
to take a 22-10 lead after one quarter.
Dyer County got an early three-pointer from Kennedy but that
was quickly matched by a Crawford trey. The Lady Choctaws stayed around ten
behind early in the second frame before a pair of buckets from Kathleen Harrell
and a bucket by Crawford were followed by a Strayhorn three-pointer as part of
a 9-0 run. The Lady Trojans took a comfortable 36-20 lead into the half.
From there, the Lady Trojans cruised to the 21-point win and
the berth in Wednesday’s district championship game.
Crawford led the way for Dyersburg with 25 points while
Jordan and Maclin each added nine in the win. Kennedy paced Dyer County with 19
while Alijah Robinson tossed in eight in the loss.
Dyersburg will take on South Gibson in the District 13-3A Championship
Game on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Dyer County High School. Earlier in the
night, the Lady Choctaws will face Crockett County ion the consolation round at
6 p.m.
